Trumpet lily “Golden Splendour” and Linaria purpurea. The Linaria is helping to support the lilies and may have protected the buds from browsing deer. You have to imagine the intense perfume of these lilies.

Gorgeous. I love the saturated color of poppies. I was thrilled to find bright red poppies lining the country roads of Hungary when I visited there in 1997.

Thanks, Pat. The poppy family seems to produce flowers in just about every colour, including those oh-so-fussy blue poppies. Fortunately, there are lots of others that are lovely but not so hard to keep alive.
