  7. Hi Audrey. Great shots – and a question. We have a large hydrangea beside our front door. It has bloomed faithfully every year – except this year. It looks very healthy with nice green leaves, but no flowers. It gets plenty of water and fertilizer and I cut it back each fall. Any ideas about why it didn’t bloom?

    1. I’m just guessing, but maybe the really cold weather we had last February might have made the plant decide not to form buds. Mine is doing better than in the last few years because I pulled out a lot of lilac suckers that were too close to it. And I make sure I water it generously starting at the end of May. But if yours is in a good spot with lots of water and you’ve treated it as usual, that Feb. cold snap is the only thing I can think of. I hope it blooms next year. That lovely shade of blue is just the thing for the tail end of summer.

    1. Thanks, Diana. It’s hard to get a good photo of a bee, at least with my simple sort of camera. I’ve been doing a lot of painting this summer (and not the artistic kind!) but at least the garden is having a good one. Thanks for reading and commenting!
