I’ve been busy in the garden lately, but I managed to take these photos.

Gorgeous weather here — sunny and temperatures of 15+ C (60s in degrees F). Wishing everyone a Happy Easter weekend!

Isn’t it great that you are passionate about something where social distancing is not usually an issue? (Not unless you have people who wander off the street into your garden.)😎

It’s a great way to be out and not close to anyone. There are lots of people and dogs going by; I just wave and smile. 😀 🌷

Gardens and birds too. I’ve come to know the different birds that come and go here. Can’t take good photos of them, though. Thanks for reading and commenting, Darlene!

What a beautiful garden you have. I like how you have so much growing in containers. I am moving to that kind of gardening myself. Do you use commercial potting mix?

Thanks, Suzanne! There are two big maple trees at one side of my back garden. Their roots make it impossible to grow some plants, so I’ve taken to container gardening over the years. I make up my own mixes from the local soil with compost and some fertilizer (both organic and not) added. It works well for tomato plants, but for perennials (like hostas and delphiniums) it’s necessary to refresh the soil every year. Otherwise it becomes both depleted and compaccted, leading to root rot over the winter. Lately, I’ve started using a purchased commercial mix for young plants and fussy ones. It drains much better than real soil, and drainage is crucial for growing in pots.

Thanks Audrey. My garden is dominated by a NortvAmerican Ash tree. I have read it is an allopathic tree for not much will grow under it. As well as that the Australian native possums are a real problem here. They eat everything but the toughest, most astringent plants. I grow a few vegies and herbs in tubs but want to grow more. Your potting mix info is extremely useful. I will do similar. 😊

Glad to be of help. I suspect my Norway maples have an allelopathic effect too. Our urban deer eat all kinds of plants, but at least we can fence them out. I’ll bet possums are harder to exclude.

Possum deterents are available but they don’t work very well. I’m finding I either have tol put plants up or cage them 😀

A lovely looking garden Audrey. I’m certainly thankful for mine. Haven’t really felt the need to get out and exercise yet. I’m stiff and aching from all the attention it’s getting. Finally getting round all the borders and pots and the lawn edges.

Thanks, Michael. I’ve found that keeping lawn edges trimmed makes a garden look 100% better, even before one does anything else. I’m more inclined to keep working on an area once it looks decent.

Your garden is lovely, Audrey. The weather is getting cooler here so not much happening except for the last roses and the fejoia trees blooming. We should have a good crop. Happy Easter and stay well. 🙂

It’s probably easier for people to stay home and not mingle when you’re going into fall. Here, of course, it’s spring and we’re into a stretch of warm, sunny weather. All provincial parks are closed and others no longer permit car traffic, to help with spacing people out (physically, that is). I’ve never tasted fejoia, but it sounds interesting; good thing yours are doing well. Happy Easter to you too, Meeka!

That is true. It’s been raining here since Good Friday so camping can’t be much fun [going camping over Easter is an Aussie tradition]. I hope the weather has put off the idiots who think rules apply to anyone but themselves.
I’ll keep you posted on the fejoia. 🙂

Your garden looks very charming, especially for this early in the season. 60 degrees here today — 6″ – 9″ of snow tomorrow. A white Easter! Happy Easter!

Thanks, Chuck. A white Easter seems wrong. I do remember snow in April a couple of decades ago. We were in shock. Happy Easter to you too!

Thanks, Debra. It’s great for folks with their own garden, but I guess it can get pretty busy in public spaces. Still, gloomy weather would be worse.
